Carlos Arnoldo Salcido Flores (born April 2, 1980 in Ocotlán, Jalisco) is a Mexican international football defender, who is currently playing for PSV Eindhoven in the Dutch Eredivisie league.

Club career

Guadalajara

Salcido started his career with Chivas Ernesto Lomeli (pro soccer player) making his debut in the Primera División de México on July 22, 2001 in a 1-1 draw against La Piedad in 2001. Salcido disappeared from Chivas' first squad until 2003, when he regained trust as a good defender. He would go on to play five half-seasons registering two goals in 105 matches. Salcido was a 2005 and 2006 Copa Libertadores Semifinalist with Guadalajara and a Runner-Up in the Mexican league losing against UNAM Pumas in 2004.

He was called on April 2, 2006, by head coach Ricardo Lavolpe, to play for the Mexican National Team. Salcido played all four matches during the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany.

PSV Eindhoven

In June and July After the 2006 FIFA World Cup, press speculation linked Salcido to several International clubs in Europe, with one report claiming on that he had agreed to sign for FA Premier League club Arsenal F.C. [ [http://www.chelsea.vitalfootball.co.uk/article.asp?a=22791 Salcido Linked to Arsenal] ] However, these speculations proved false as he signed a four-year contract with Dutch champions PSV Eindhoven on July 10 2006.

Salcido has been a starter and is one of the men of trust of Coach Ronald Koeman. He has played in the Dutch League and in the Champions League where PSV has had great accomplishments. On November 18, 2006, he scored his first goal in Europe. It was a spectacular long distance goal in a match against Excelsior Rotterdam that ended in 4-0. His first season with PSV was excellent, playing as a starter in 33 of 34 league games, where Salcido was Champion in his first season with PSV. In total Salcido played a total of 48 Eredivisie and UEFA Champions League games, finishing 46 of them. For the 2007-2008 season, Salcido will wear the number 3 jersey, which was previously worn bij Michael Reiziger, as he does with his National Team. Salcido in his second season as a starter, played 33 games in the Dutch League, and 6 games in the Champions League.

Salcido's strong season has caught the attention of many teams in Spain, and England, especially English Premier League side Wigan. He has recently said he would rather play in the Premiership in a few years time.

International career

Salcido debuted with Mexico in 2004, and came to participate in many competitions with Mexico. In 2005, he played in the Confederations Cup in Germany, helping the Mexican national football team to a fourth place finish, where he appeared as a starter in all five matches. During a semi-final match against Argentina, Salcido scored a dynamic goal in extra time after recovering the ball in the Mexican area and driving the whole length of the pitch, dribbling past three defenders and scoring after the shot bounced off Fabricio Coloccini and fooled keeper Germán Lux.

Salcido again now in the orders of Mexican legendary former player Hugo Sanchez as coach was called for the 2007 Gold Cup. On June 21, 2007 he played the semifinals in the 2007 Gold Cup. The day after the game surprisedly he announced that he would not go to 2007 Copa America with the Mexican national because he needed some rest. He played the final in the Gold Cup, and did not fly with the team to Venezuela for the Copa America. Mexico ended up in third place in the Copa America losing against Argentina in Semifinals.
