Hoktember ( _hy. Հոկտեմբեր, also Romanized as Oktember; until 1935, Sardarapat) is a town in the Armavir province of Armenia.

By the city is the site of the important Persian fortress of Sardari Berd. This was built around 1810 with British technical assistance by Sardar Hosein Qoli Khan Qajar, (Sardari Iravani) last and best of the Persian Qajar governors of the Erivan Khanate, using stones taken from the ruins of ancient Armavir, some still bearing traces of cuneiform inscriptions. Used as administrative center for the Sardarapat district and summer residence of the Khan of Erevan, the fortress was taken by the Russians under General Paskevich in 1828, despite stout defense by Hasan Khan Sardari Iravani, Hosein's brother. Almost no trace of the fortress is left, this remnant of foreign rule having been dismantled to build Soviet Armenia.

A major feature of the city is the Sardarapat Monument commemorating the Battle of Sardarapat.

Since 1967, the town has included the formerly independent town of Norapat. [Kiesling, "Rediscoving Armenia", p. 37, available online at the [http://yerevan.usembassy.gov/armenia.pdf US embassy to Armenia's website] ]
