Geostationary meteorological satellite

Geostationary meteorological satellite

The Japan Meteorological Agency used a series of Geostationary Meteorological Satellites (GMS) to carry out weather observation from space. The first GMS satellite was launched 1977-07-14 from Kennedy Space Center. The fifth and final satellite was launched 1995-03-18 from Tanegashima Space Center. The satellites were replaced by the Multifunctional Transport Satellite series.
