Andrés Jaque

Andrés Jaque (Madrid, 1971) is an architect and artist. He explores the role art and architecture play in the making of societies.

Life and career

Educated at the Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura, Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, won in 1998 the Tessenow Stipendiat from the Alfred Toepfer Foundation of Hamburg, and he has taught and lectured in universities all around the world.

In 2000 his installation Courier New was presented in the "7ª Mostra di Architettura" de la "Biennale di Venezia". In 2003 his work "Techno-Geisha" was presented in Madrid. "Techno-geisha" was an architectural action based in the design and construction of a character, the entertainer of contemporary city. In 2004 he completed the construction of "Casa Sacerdotal Diocesana de Plasencia". An interactive building designed to promote the public emergence of controversies among their users, mainly elder Catholic priests. What Jaque called a parliamentary architecture. In 2005 he developed, in association with Peter Eisenman the "12 Actions to Make the Cidade da Cultura de Galicia Transparent". A project to make visible, and easy to understand for general public, the political implications of the construction of a singular building site. He is also the author of other works like Teddy House (Vigo, 2003), Tupper Home (Madrid, 2005), Mouse City, (Stavanger, 2003), Peace Foam City (Ceuta, 2005), Skin Gardens (Barcelona, 2006) and the Museo Postal de Bogotá (Bogotá, 2007).

Office for Political Innovation

In 2003 together with a number of sociologist, economist and journalist he created the "Office for Political Innovation", a think tank focused on the development of a democratically centered architecture, considering objects as material actors of equalitarian societies.
