Droog Fort, Coonoor

Droog Fort is a tourist spot in Coonoor, The Nilgiris, Tamil Nadu.[1] Droog Fort is also called by name of Bakasura Malai.It is situated only at a distance of 13 km from Coonoor,[2] trekking must be undertaken to getting to this fort.[3] This old and worn out fort approximate height is 6,000 ft above the plains[1][4] and the peak stands at an elevation of about 2,000 mts.[5] In the 16th century the brave king Tipu Sultan was used as an outpost,the bird’s eye view from the Fort easily speaks of why Tipu Sultan chose this spot as his outpost, now only a wall remains of this military outpost.[1][2][3] The Droog Fort interesting place for the bird-watchers, the legendary surroundings are worth enjoying. Tourists would need to engage in a scenic trek through the Nonsuch Tea Estate to get to the Fort and visit to the Fort would allow travellers to enjoy the natural splendour of the area, whilst glimpsing the rich heritage of this magnificent hill station.[3][5][6][7]
