Major financial contributors to George McGovern's 1984 presidential campaign

In George McGovern's campaign for president during the early Democratic caucuses and primaries in 1984, his major financial contributors included stateswoman Jean Kennedy Smith (sister of John, Robert and Edward Kennedy), her husband Stephen Smith (former campaign manager for John, Robert and Edward Kennedy); economist John Kenneth Galbraith, stateswoman Pamela Harriman; actors Shirley MacLaine, Mike Farrell, Barbra Streisand, Charles Grodin, Richard Widmark, Jack Lemmon, Margot Kidder and Casey Kasem; musicians Don Henley and Shaun Cassidy; and directors Sydney Pollack and Norman Lear.[1] Politician Kathleen Kennedy Townsend (daughter of Robert Kennedy) spoke on his behalf at public events[2] and musician Arlo Guthrie served as featured performer at rallies and receptions.[3][4]
