It consists of Midnapore municipality and six community development blocks: Medinipur Sadar, Garhbeta–I, Garhbeta–II, Garhbeta–III, Keshpur and Shalboni. The six blocks contain one census town and 64 gram panchayats. The subdivision has its headquarters at Midnapore.

Area
Apart from the Midnapore municipality, the subdivision contains one census town and rural areas of 64 gram panchayats under six community development blocks: Medinipur Sadar, Garhbeta–I, Garhbeta–II, Garhbeta–III, Keshpur and Shalboni.[1] The only census town is: Durllabhganj.[2]
Blocks
Medinipur Sadar block
Rural area under Medinipur Sadar block consists of nine gram panchayats, viz. Banpura, Monidaha, Pathra, Chandra, Panchkhuri–I, Shiromoni, Dherua, Panchkhuri–II and Tantigeria.[1] There is no urban area under this block.[2] Medinipur police station serves this block.[3] Headquarters of this block is in Barapathar Cantonment.[4]
Garhbeta–I block
Rural area under Garhbeta–I block consists of 12 gram panchayats, viz. Agra, Baramura, Garanga, Kharkusma, Amkopa, Benachapra, Garhbeta, Sandhipur, Amlagora, Dhadika, Katra Uttarbil and Shyamnagar.[1] There is no urban area under this block.[2] Goaltor and Garhbeta police stations serve this block.[3] Headquarters of this block is in Garhbeta.[4]
Garhbeta–II block
Rural area under Garhbeta–II block consists of ten gram panchayats, viz. Amlasuli, Jeerapara, Patharpara, Sarboth, Goaltor, Jogardanga, Pingbani, Gohaldanga, Makli and Piyasala.[1] There is no urban area under this block.[2] Goaltor police station serves this block.[3] Headquarters of this block is in Goaltor.[4]
Garhbeta–III block
Rural area under Garhbeta–III block consists of eight gram panchayats, viz. Amsole, Nalbona, Raskunda, Shankarkanta, Karsa, Nayabasat, Satbankura and Uriasai.[1] Urban area under this block consists of one census town: Durllabhganj.[2] Goaltor and Garhbeta police stations serve this block.[3] Headquarters of this block is in Satbankura.[4]
Keshpur block
Rural area under Keshpur block consists of 15 gram panchayats, viz. Amanpur, Enayetpur, Kalagram, Sarisha Khola, Amrakuchi, Golar, Jhentla, Shirsha, Anandapur, Jagannathpur, Keshpur, Teghari, Dhalhara, Jorakeudi Solidiha and Mugbasan.[1] There is no urban area under this block.[2] Keshpur police station & Anandapur police station serves this block.[3] Headquarters of this block is in Keshpur.[4]
Shalboni block
Rural area under Shalboni block consists of ten gram panchayats, viz. Bankibandh, Debgram, Kashijora, Shatpati, Bhimpur, Garhmal, Lalgeria, Bishnupur, Karnagarh and Shalboni.[1] There is no urban area under this block.[2] Shalboni police station serves this block.[3] Headquarters of this block is in Shalboni.[4]
Legislative segments
As per order of the Delimitation Commission in respect of the delimitation of constituencies in West Bengal:[5]
- The Garhbeta–I block and four gram panchayats under the Garhbeta–II block — Amlasuli, Jogardanga, Piyasala and Sarboth — will together form the Garbeta assembly constituency of West Bengal.
- The other six gram panchayats under the Garhbeta–II block will be part of the Salboni assembly constituency, which will also contain the area under the Garhbeta–III block and five gram panchayats under the Salbani block — Bhimpur, Bishnupur, Debgram, Lalgeria and Shalboni.
- The other five gram panchayat under the Salbani block will be part of the Medinipur assembly constituency, which will also contain the municipality area of Medinipur, along with four gram panchayats under the Medinipur block — Chandra, Dherua, Monidaha and Tantigeria.
- The Keshpur assembly constituency will cover the area under the Keshpur block.
- The Keshpur constituency will be reserved for Scheduled castes (SC) candidates.
- The constituencies of Garbeta and Salboni will be assembly segments of the Jhargram (Lok Sabha constituency), which will be reserved for Scheduled tribes (ST) candidates.
- The Keshpur constituency will be an assembly segment of the Ghatal (Lok Sabha constituency).
- The Medinpur constituency will be an assembly segment of the Medinipur (Lok Sabha constituency).
