Software upgrades
Motorola was unwilling to upgrade the Android 2.1 operating system preloaded on the XT720. Cincinnati Bell, however, certified a 2.2 software upgrade that can be installed by anyone who owns this phone or by the service provider's store representatives for their customers. This upgrade is not certified by Motorola and requires the rooting of the XT720 smartphone.[6]
Hacks
Unfortunately the CBW or "Cincinnati Bell" update was nothing but a plagiary of D3xters First 2.2 update. [7] was posted on xda-developers website 6 months previously to the "BS Official" update CBW put out.
Due to the fact that CBW was boasting their "Official" XT720 update, actual developers stop developing on D3xters release in anticipation of a "fixed XT720". The wait was mostly due to incorrigible system hack's that disabled vital functions in the ROM's system. When CBW released their "Official" 2.2 for the XT720, true developers we're appalled. Fortunately, the developers stroked back and took the XT720.
At this time the boot-loader is still locked. Motorola promised that boot-loaders would be unlocked.[8]
More fortunately 2 special members, resar and fjfalcon found a "work-around" for the locked boot-loader. Mioze7Ae, CyanogenMod6 (under development).[9] hellmonger, XDA special "Hellmonger Edition" (RC2 under development).[10] khalpowers ROM V4 New rom-support swap on (14-04-2011).[11] fjfalcon, RusMod 1.19, project currently closed doe CyanogenMod and xda-developers special.[12]
