Bhusawal is a city and a municipal council in Jalgaon district in the state of Maharashtra, India.

Geography

Bhusawal is located at coord|21|02|50.56|N|75|47|15.99|E| [ [http://www.fallingrain.com/world/IN/16/Bhusawal.html Falling Rain Genomics, Inc - Bhusawal] ] . It has an average elevation of 209 metres (685 feet).

Bhusawal, is located on the bank of Tapi river, is the biggest taluka of Jalgaon district, and situated on National Highway No. 6 (NH6). Bhusawal railway junction is one of the largest railway yards of the Indian subcontinent. The hinterland of Bhusawal is famous for banana cultivation. World Heritage famous Ajanta is about 60 km (Via Jamner) from Bhusawal.

Demographics

As of 2001 India census [GR|India] , Bhusawal had a population of 172,366. Males constitute 52% of the population and females 48%. Bhusawal has an average literacy rate of 78%, higher than the national average of 59.5%; with male literacy of 83% and female literacy of 72%. 11% of the population is under 6 years of age.

Transport

Road

Bhusawal is situated on National Highway No. 6 (NH6).Internal roads like Varangaon Road, Khadaka Road, Jamner Road, Jalgaon Road are very congested in Bhusawal and also get connected to [NH 6] , totally they have four exits from the town. Nasik( HinduPilgrimage place) is only 3 1/2 hrs journey by road & railway.

Railway

* Bhusawal has very good railway connectivity, and an important divisional headquarters of Central Railway of the Indian Railways.
* The famous American 1956 movie, Bhowani Junction features a railway station that was modelled on the Bhusawal railway station.
* Bhusawal is a very big juncion on Central Railway. Mumbai-Delhi(North/West) & Mumbai-Kolkata (East/West) connections splits at this Junction.
* There is a Zonal Training Center for Railway Staff in Bhusawal. ZTC is the area known popularly.
* P.O.H. & M.O.H. are the two overhauling units work 24 hrs for maintenance of locomotive engines.
* When steam locomotives were used in India, this was a big Steam Loco Shed for the same & due to river Tapi, the train usually used to stop here to get water and stock for Loco Engines as well as passenger utility.
* A Unique '#' Crossing of Railway Line - which is in 90 degree to each other is seen here first.

RPD

RPD stands for Reserve Petroleum Depot. This was a unit of the Indian Army and has since been disbanded. The sprawling estate of the earlier RPD is now known as Military Station, Bhusawal and houses other units of the Army.

Adjacent to this area, the defence ministry has set up a ammunition factory called "Ordinance Factory Bhusaval" (OFB). Various spare parts and tools required for the military services are manufactured in this factory. This is a restricted area and is not accessible to civilians.

Deepnagar

Added by Madhav Kulkarni. The Thermal Power Station (TPS), which produces around 12% of the electricity requirement of Maharashtra, is situated in Bhusawal on the bank of the River Tapi. Further down to Deepnagar, a village called 'Varangaon' has an ordnance factory.

* Bhusawal is also famous for bananas. The bananas of this place are sent by special goods trains all over India and especially to the North Area.
* Most of the population is dominated by Leva Patil/Patidar Samaj, who are basically farmers but very brilliant in academics too.
* The principal food is traditional Maharashtran cuisine. Brinjal is the most loved vegetable in this area. People eat spicy food.Added by Rahul Johari.

* Most of the population earn their bread either working for Central Railway or farming, these two are the main sources of income.

Delicacies of Bhusawal

Bhusawal is known for its special white brinjals that are grown locally in the nearby areas. They often constitute the delicacies in local marriages along with daal vaati toop (a lentil dish served with ghee) served with peanut garlic chutney. In local hotels Shev Bhaji, spicy aluvada, and Bengan bharta are favourite dishes.

Bhusawal is also famous for its banana cultivation. Traders from various parts of the country come to Bhusawal to buy raw bananas.Bananas are exported to different countries across the world.

Weather

The weather in Bhusawal is dry and hot. In the summer season temperatures reach around 46 to 49 degree Celsius, which amounts to the highest in the country.
