Between 1999 and 2001, an ethnic Albanian guerilla organization similar to the KLA, known as the Liberation Army of Preševo, Medveđa and Bujanovac operated in this region. Though there were casualties and injuries on both sides, the events did not quite attract the same international media attention as what had been happening in Kosovo until 1999, and what was also happening south of the border in Macedonia during 2001. The situation as of 2007 is peaceful.
