- Bernie Bierman
Bernie Bierman (
March 11 ,1894 ,Springfield, MN -March 7 ,1977 ,Laguna Hills, CA ) is best remembered as acollege football coach. He coached from 1919 to 1950 except duringWorld War II where he served in the US armed forces. He coached at theUniversity of Montana ,Mississippi State University andTulane University before coaching at theUniversity of Minnesota . As coach of the Gophers, his teams completed a 93-35-6 (.716) slate over a 16-season span which included six Big Ten Championships, five National Championships and five undefeated seasons. He was also a brother of theAlpha Delta Phi Fraternity.Personal life
Married to Clara McKenzie Bierman, father of two sons, William A. Bierman a successful lawyer in St. Paul MN and James Bierman of Los Angeles CA.
