Jussi Jokinen (born April 1, 1983 in Kalajoki, Finland) is a Finnish professional ice hockey forward currently playing for the Tampa Bay Lightning of the National Hockey League.

Jussi is well known for being a shootout specialist. He can be seen pulling some unique dekes, such as the one handed slide in goal - also known as "The Paralyzer" - in shootouts. He set an NHL record by scoring in 9 straight shootout attempts in the 2005-06 NHL season as a rookie.

Jokinen is not related to Olli Jokinen of the Phoenix Coyotes, but he does have a younger brother, Juho, who currently represents Kärpät in the Finnish SM-liiga.

During trade deadline day on February 26, 2008, Jussi Jokinen was dealt to the Tampa Bay Lightning along with Mike Smith, Jeff Halpern, and a 2009 4th-round draft pick in exchange for Brad Richards and Johan Holmqvist.

Playing career

Jokinen was drafted by the Dallas Stars in the 6th round, 192nd overall, in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft. Jokinen spent his four seasons before his NHL debut playing for Kärpät of the SM-liiga, the Finnish "elite league".

In his rookie year in the NHL, Jokinen gained a great reputation in the NHL as one of the best shootout specialists in the league, until being stopped by Evgeni Nabokov.Cite web|url=http://www.usatoday.com/sports/hockey/nhl/stars/2006-01-31-jokinen-shootouts_x.htm|title=Shootout is Jokinen's specialty|accessdate=2006-09-21|publisher=USA Today|year=2006|author=Kevin Allen] Cite web|url=http://www.cbc.ca/sports/hockey/stanleycup2006/storyview.html?/story/stanleycup2006/national/2006/04/22/Sports/jokinen-dallasstars060422.html|title=Star not lost without shootout|accessdate=2006-09-21|publisher=CBC.ca|year=2006] He was a remarkable nine-for-nine in shootouts before his first unsuccessful attempt.Cite web|url=http://www.cbc.ca/sports/hockey/stanleycup2006/storyview.html?/story/stanleycup2006/national/2006/04/22/Sports/jokinen-dallasstars060422.html|title=Star not lost without shootout|accessdate=2006-09-21|publisher=CBC.ca|year=2006]
