Louise Lightner Post (born December 7, 1966 in St. Louis, Missouri) is the lead vocalist and guitarist for alternative rock group Veruca Salt. She is a graduate of Barnard College, holding a Bachelor of Arts degree in English.

Musical career

Post formed the alt-rock band Veruca Salt in the early 1990s along with Nina Gordon, Steve Lack and Jim Shapiro. Veruca Salt released two successful albums -- American Thighs (1994) and Eight Arms to Hold You (1997) -- prior to splitting up.

Post reformed the band and released two more studio albums with different line-ups: 2000's Resolver and 2006's IV.

She performed a rendition of her song "Spiderman '79" for the independent film "The Still Life" (in which she also had a small role). During her career, Post has collaborated with indie rock acts including The Drowners and Frogpond.

Personal life

Post was best friends with Veruca Salt bandmate Nina Gordon, however the latter left the band following acrimonious personal disagreements in the late 1990s; Post also cited creative differences as a reason for the split.cite web|title=Grohl schmoll|publisher=The Sydney Morning Herald|url=http://www.smh.com.au/articles/2003/07/10/1057783280884.html|date=2003-07-11|accessdate=2007-11-23] cite web|title='I crawled back from a dark place'|publisher=Chicago Sun-Times|url=http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_qn4155/is_20061001/ai_n16761248|date=2006-10-01|accessdate=2007-11-23] The next Veruca Salt album, 2000's "Resolver", included lyrics that implied hostility towards Gordon. The two had apparently reconciled by 2003 and were friendly once more "but not at the same intensity." [cite web|title=Veruca Salt.|publisher=dBMagazine.com.au|url=http://www.dbmagazine.com.au/347/a-features.shtml|accessdate=2007-11-23] In October 2006, Post complimented Gordon's pop music.

Post was previously in a relationship with Foo Fighters front man/former Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl, which ended in a painful break-up. During a combative, inebriated performance in Melbourne in 1997, she announced that Grohl had left her for actress Winona Ryder.cite web|title=From pillow to Post|publisher=The Age|url=http://www.theage.com.au/news/Music/From-pillow-to-Post/2004/12/30/1104344910788.html|date=2004-12-31|accessdate=2007-11-23]

After leaving her old, defunct label (Beyond) and the departure of Veruca Salt band members with whom she had made "Resolver", Post struggled with weight gain, depression and prescription drugs: "I was definitely exhibiting self-destructive behavior: I saw a doctor who prescribed a lot of supposedly helpful medication, and it didn't do well with my chemistry. I feel like I crawled back from a dark place -- or I didn't crawl back, but I came back with strength returning to me tenfold," the now 39-year-old singer, songwriter and guitarist continues. "There was a time when -- how do I put this? -- I just wasn't in love with myself, or even really in like with myself. I had to learn to love myself again, and I needed to do that in order to continue making art. But playing music always sort of kept me afloat. When I play even now, if I'm not in the best of moods, and I go to practice, as soon as we're playing, I have a smile on my face. It just makes me really happy."

Post and Courtney Love were friends and one-time musical collaborators: "I moved to L.A., and I was in a band with Courtney Love for about five minutes." Post said "I felt like I needed a bath afterwards" in regards to her unavailing collaboration with Love during an interview for Capital Chaos TV in 2006.

On the 30th of March 2008, Post married boyfriend Tony Parks in Vegas. Post has been dating Parks since 2001. Parks fronts another band called The Firetrucs.

In 2008 Post was one of the contributors to Carrie Borzillo-Vrenna's book Cherry Bomb along with Dita Von Teese, Tori Amos, Cherie Currie of the Runaways, Terri Nunn, Lisa Loeb, Katy Perry, Samantha Maloney, Betsey Johnson, Anna Sui, and Jessicka. She penned the section, "Why Sobriety Rocks."
