It tells the story of a teddy bear named Corduroy, who is bought in a department store by a girl named Lisa. Don Freeman wrote a sequel, A Pocket for Corduroy in 1978.
There are many subsequent books about Corduroy, such as Corduroy Lost and Found published in 2006, written by B.G. Hennessy. They are illustrated by Lisa McCue.
Corduroy was made into a made for television movie in 1984.
