KNAV is a Spanish language Genesis Television Network affiliate serving the Dallas / Fort Worth Metroplex, operated by Tuck Properties. It is not available on either Time Warner Cable, Charter Communications, or Verizon FiOS at this time.

History

KNAV was originally started in Coriscana in 1983 [ [http://fjallfoss.fcc.gov/cgi-bin/ws.exe/prod/cdbs/pubacc/prod/comment.pl?Application_id=44363&File_number=BPTTL-19820621TX Public Notice Comment ] ] as a station run by Navarro College. (hence the NAV call letters) It was sold in 2004 [ [http://fjallfoss.fcc.gov/cgi-bin/ws.exe/prod/cdbs/pubacc/prod/comment.pl?Application_id=991261&File_number=BALTTL-20040504AAF Public Notice Comment ] ] to Tuck Properties. Tuck moved the transmitter so the station could serve the Dallas-Fort Worth television market.

The station moved from channel 29 to 30 around the time that KMPX was granted a construction permit for a full-power station on channel 29. It later moved to channel 22 after KMPX was granted channel 30 as its digitial television frequency.

KNAV emerged as the Almavision affiliate, showing Spanish religious programming. However, in mid 2006, KNAV abandoned Almavision in favor of the new locally produced Genesis Television Network which still maintains its religious format to this day.

As a low-power station, KNAV-LP will not be required to turn off its analog signal on February 19, 2009, which is the end of the digital TV conversion period for full-service stations.
