Prince Edward Building (Regina)

Prince Edward Building (Regina)

, located at the corner of Scarth Street and 11th Avenue.

Designed by David Ewart, construction of the post office began in 1906 with an addition in 1929 by architects Storey and Van Egmond. The building functioned as the post office from 1907 until 1956. City offices moved here in 1962 when they vacated the later-demolished old city hall on 11th Avenue between Scarth and Rose Streets, and moved out when the new city hall was opened in 1975.

In February 1982, the old post office was one of the first buildings in Regina to be designated as a municipal heritage property.

For a time referred to as the Old City Hall Mall, it was officially renamed The Prince Edward Building in 1994 when the Prince Edward visited the Globe Theatre here. The building currently houses the theatre and other small shops and a restaurant.
