Thevaram is a panchayat town in Theni district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu.

Demographics

As of 2001 India census [GR|India] , Thevaram had a population of 14,501. Males constitute 50% of the population and females 50%. Thevaram has an average literacy rate of 66%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 74%, and female literacy is 59%. In Thevaram, 10% of the population is under 6 years of age.

Thevaram refers to a set of sacred hymns sung by the 3 saints Appar , Sundharar & Gnaana Sambandhar.These songs are in praise of Shiva , the hindu god representing Saivam.There are about 276 temples sung in the thevaram which are distributed all over india and about 96% of them arelocated in the state of tamizh nadu.The site http://www.templepages.com extensively talks about the temples sung in thevaram.
