Dobromyl (Ukrainian: Добромиль, Polish: Dobromil) is a city in Lviv Oblast, Ukraine. It is located at around 49°34′N 22°47′E / 49.567°N 22.783°E / 49.567; 22.783Coordinates: 49°34′N 22°47′E / 49.567°N 22.783°E / 49.567; 22.783, some 5 kilometers to the border with Poland. Population: 5,000 (2001) [1].

The settlement was mentioned for the first time in 1374. It was founded by the Herburt family, upon request of Polish prince Władysław Opolczyk. In 1566 it was granted town rights by the King Sigismund the Old. Eighteen years later, Stanislaw Herburt constructed a castle there. Until 1772 (see: Partitions of Poland) it was part of Poland. Then it passed to Austria, and in 1918 again became part of Poland, located in the Lwów Voivodeship. Following German and Soviet invasion, Dobromyl was occupied by the Soviet Union.[2]
