Don’t Quit Your Day Job was met with fairly positive results from numerous music critics. Rap Reviews stated 'Don't Quit Your Day Job!" won't blow you away, nor will is it likely to make you dance. But it's a soulfully smooth album that both hip hop heads and casual fans can enjoy, with a great replay value.' Allmusic declared '…he doesn't have to slip into stereotypes to show he's a real rapper; he can let his rhymes speak for themselves.'

Commercial Performance

In its first week the album sold 7,490 units, debuting at #1 on the Billboard Heatseekers Album Chart. Following criticism, Consequence offered a refund deal on his MySpace page, claiming that anyone who purchased the album and was disappointed by it could contact him and get their money back.
