Monk's Walk School is a comprehensive secondary school on the outskirts of Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire, England. It is a specialist Science College. The school's motto is: Vel optima cuique praebere, "Excellence for All".

Relatively new, it was built in the 1960s and, contrary to popular belief, is not on the site of an old abbey. It has recently acquired a new headmaster, Mrs. Kate Smith, and adopted the title of 'Specialist Science College'.

Other secondary schools in the area include Sir Frederic Osborn and Stanborough as well as a private school named Sherrardswood Sherrardswood The school's annual student intake is approximately 220 eleven and twelve year olds of both sexes, with 1,324 students throughout the school. It also has approximately 100 teachers and staff.

Blocks

Monk's Walk consists of five blocks: A, B, C, D and E. When the school became a Science College the names were altered to Archimedes, Babbage, Curie, Darwin and Einstein.

Archimedes houses the departments of Maths, ICT, Music, History, and Physical Education.

Babbage, the largest block, consists of Science, Languages (French, German and Spanish), English, Drama, ICT and the Library which of late has acquired fingerprint recognition systems.

Curie has Music, Art, Religious Education, Business Studies, Geography, ICT and a large Sixth form Common Room for A Level students' relaxation and study time.

Darwin, the smallest, has but two: ICT and Design and Technology.

Einstein, the newest (now 8 years old) has science and other forms of Design Technology in a two-storey modernised complex. Monks Walk School is also home to a top performing arts school: Top Hat Stage School, which has been running classes at Monks Walk since 1994. http://www.whtimes.co.uk/news/alesha_dixon_at_stage_school_awards_in_welwyn_garden_city_1_13763
