List of objects dropped on New Year's Eve

List of objects dropped on New Year's Eve

On New Year's Eve in the USA it has become tradition to drop a time ball to commemorate the New Year.

Many cities and towns in the United States drop objects on New Year's Eve. The most famous of these is the Times Square Ball dropped each December 31 in Times Square; in fact, most of these are imitators of the Times Square Ball. Although some of the objects may seem peculiar, practically all relate to some aspect of local history, geography, or culture.

A ball drop is not the only common New Year's Eve celebration; in several cities, such as Las Vegas, Nevada and Toronto, Ontario, fireworks are launched instead, and the First Night organization also holds celebrations across the country, some of which have ball drops.
