Saint Julian's School

Saint Julian's is a private English language school in Carcavelos, Portugal, 19 minutes by train from Lisbon. St. Julian's offers the British Curriculum up to and including the iGCSEs. The final two years are only for International Baccalaureate Diploma students. St. Julian's also offers a Portuguese Section, offering the Portuguese Curriculum until 9º ano (equivalent to 10th grade). It is known Portugal Wide.

St. Julian's was opened on November 25, 1932, on the site of an 18th century palace, built by José Francisco da Cruz, Treasurer to King D. José I.Several national and international famous figures have their children studying. Celebrities who have attended the school include for example Bryan Adams, the famous singer.

At present, the headmaster is Mr. David Smith, the Primary School principal Mr. Robert Bienkowski, and the Secondary School Principal Mr. Nick Connelly. The school has a team of student prefects from the International Baccalaureate program as well as a head girl and a head boy who change every year.

Extracurricular activities

The school runs several festivals and extra curricular activities such as the international schools sports festival, arts festivals and the occasional drama production. The school also recently joined Eco-Schools, a programme to make schools more "ecologically efficient", encouraging students to be more responsible ecologically for the future.

* Etherington Smith

St Julian's School is a British international day school with a consistent academic, sporting and artistic tradition. The school offers students aged three to eighteen an English style education in Portugal. We encourage a sense of personal achievement combined with concern for others.
