History
The Town of Wethersfield was established in 1823 from part of the Town of Orangeville.
Geography
According to the
United States Census Bureau , the town has a total area of 36.1square mile s (93.5km² ), of which, 35.8 square miles (92.8 km²) of it is land and 0.3 square miles (0.7 km²) of it (0.78%) is water.Wethersfield has 35 general electric wind-power turbines on the top of a hill at approximately 2060 feet above sea level, which can be seen from NY Route 77 (Cattaraugus Road), Perry Road (CR 9), Pee Dee Road, and Poplar Tree Road.
Demographics
As of the
census GR|2 of 2000, there were 891 people, 323 households, and 248 families residing in the town. Thepopulation density was 24.9 people per square mile (9.6/km²). There were 442 housing units at an average density of 12.3/sq mi (4.8/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 96.75% White, 1.01% African American, 1.12% Asian, 0.34% Pacific Islander, 0.56% from other races, and 0.22% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.01% of the population.There were 323 households out of which 35.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 63.8% were married couples living together, 6.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 23.2% were non-families. 17.3% of all households were made up of individuals and 6.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.76 and the average family size was 3.08.
In the town the population was spread out with 29.1% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 29.2% from 25 to 44, 24.5% from 45 to 64, and 9.1% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 104.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 110.7 males.
The median income for a household in the town was $37,337, and the median income for a family was $39,750. Males had a median income of $28,125 versus $25,625 for females. The
