Big Think, launched in January 2008, is a site that serves as a public forum for users to interact with public intellectuals in numerous fields.

The site’s producers have recorded thousands of hours of footage from interviews of numerous experts, allowing users to see what today’s leaders feel about broader issues, such as global warming and the two-party system. These interviews are searchable by topic or question. Users can respond to these ideas by posting their own videos or questions to experts, creating a conversation in the public sphere. Users can also spark conversations of their own by posting their own original ideas and questions, putting them up for debate.

Founders of Big Think envisioned the site as a YouTube for intellectuals, and see it one day being a source of primary information for college students. They plan to add new features as the site goes along, such as a Facebook-like application for social networking.
