Mascot Books is the largest publisher of licensed children’s sports books in America.[1] Based in Herndon, Virginia,[2] just outside of Washington, D.C., Mascot Books creates children’s books for professional teams, colleges, and even elementary schools. Founded in 2003 by Naren and Aimee Aryal,[3] Mascot Books has over 200 titles from teams and schools all over the country.

Naren and Aimee created Mascot Books after the two were unable to find a book about their alma mater's mascot, the Virginia Tech HokieBird.[3] Since writing Hello, HokieBird! in 2003,[2] Mascot Books has published over 100 college and university themed books and has more coming out every year.

Some of the most well known figures in sports have written Mascot Books including Yogi Berra, Jim Rooker, Jerry Remy, Bob Feller, Ozzie Smith, Ken Stabler, Lute Olson, Mark Cuban, Rusty Staub, and many others.[3] Bo, America's Commander-in-Leash and How the Fox Got His Color are two of the children's animal stories from Mascot Books.

Self-publishing

Due to the success of the company's professional and collegiate titles, Mascot Books has developed a new Mascot Books Author Program, focusing on self-publishing the works of authors all across the country. Mascot Books offers an innovative way to self-publish children's books on a wide variety of subjects. The company provides book production, marketing, and distribution for many first time authors. Mascot Books is currently working with several notable sports personalities as well.

In 2010, preschool teacher Cyndie Moore published her first children's book with Mascot Books, called "Shoe Trouble", based on her experiences as a preschool teacher in Eufaula, Alabama.[4]

Elementary school fundraising

In 2009, Mascot Books established a new line of elementary school mascot books featuring school-specific, customized characters and story lines. The first book in the series, Hello, Scotty!, tells the story of Crossfield Elementary in Herndon, Virginia.[5]

Mascot Books has since published nearly 50 elementary school books in 22 states. The books provide schools a chance to raise money in nonfood related ways.
