Anglian Bus is large independent bus operator based in Beccles in Suffolk, England. The company operates services over a wide area in both Norfolk and Suffolk, running a fleet of around 63 buses and coaches. [ [http://www.anglianbus.co.uk/fleet_profile.php Anglian Bus and Coach - Fleet Profile] Accessed September 7 2008] . Over recent years, the company has become more well known from its developments.

History

Anglian Bus was set up as a family business in 1986, from a base in Loddon, Norfolk.

The company has now moved to Beccles Business Park, and has constructed a purpose built garage on 5 acres of freehold land, where both operation and administration matters are carried out. A full Department of Transport MOT test lane is incorporated within the premises.

The average age the company's fleet is 3 years; company policy dictates that all Anglian Bus' new vehicles are low-floor and wheelchair accessible. [ [http://www.anglianbus.co.uk/company_profile.html Anglian Bus - Company Profile] Accessed September 7 2008]

Services

The company operates a number of services, both standard routes and more limited services. Some places the company serves are that area's only mode of transport, meaning Anglian provides an important link. Both urban and rural areas are served, many of the company's routes running into the city of Norwich, and serving the recently developed Norwich bus station.

Service X47 is run in competition with bus company First Eastern Counties. It was originally numbered the A47, and started running in March 2008. One of the company's Scania OmniCity double deckers are branded for the route. [Ian Allan Publishing Buses Magazine - "VW takes control of Scania as it steps up OmniCity sales for UK", April 2008, Issue 637.] Since then, it has been renumbered to X47.

Some coaches are run on private hire services.

Fleet

Anglian Bus runs a modern fleet of varying types. Many of the fleet have been bought new and many have been built by Optare. The company has a large fleet of Optare Solos, and in July 2008 two Optare Versa entered service. [Ian Allan Publishing Buses Magazine - "East Lancs name set to disappear as Optare and Darwen agree to merge", August 2008, Issue 641.] Optare Tempos are also operated [ [http://busesoftheuk.fotopic.net/p49962945.html Fotopic Buses of London and the UK by Russell Baldock - "Anglian Bus 406 (YJ55BLX) on route 122 at Norwich"] Accessed September 7 2008.] and the company also took one of the last constructed examples of the Optare Spectra, although this was offered for sale in August 2008. [Ian Allan Publishing Buses Magazine - Anglian Bus fleet news, September 2008, Issue 6421.] In March 2008, it was one of the first operators to put into service Euro-4 double-deck Scania OmniCitys.
